![]() Unless what you meant was that I'm missing another option:ĭ) The "can't depress the button while the door is open" mechanism is present on PDL-equipped vans, but isn't activated when the doors are locked through the PDL mechanism. But I'm still unsure how it would behave prior to modification. How to achieve that was somewhat in the back of my mind. I have been locked in more than once by the kids. EDIT- Just remembered that I modded the lock to work with the door in any position. Depressing the button on the passenger side locks all doors. All others (slider, hatch) are lockedī-alternate) After what's described in B), the mechanism detects that both doors are in an inconsistent state and unlock everythingĬ) The "can't depress the button while the door is open" mechanism isn't present on power door lock-equipped vans. Unlikely.ī) The motor spins for a little while, stops by itself but fails to lock the driver door. What happens on the driver door?Ī) The motor spins indefinitely, since it fight against the "can't depress the button while the door is open" protection. Someone pushes down the button on the passenger door. Thought mine was broken/ stuck too!Īssuming a van with factory power door locks. Thanks again - she's all locked tight now. Its a bit fussy so I think it just needs used vs. Question: what about vehicles with power door locks? Asking b/c I recently sourced a PDL kit, and this got me thinking. unless the door is closed, at which point the lock button will move freely. This is an intentional design to reduce the risk of locking your keys in the vehicle. If it is closed it should lock easily with the button, but as mentioned, you can't push the button with it open. You're kidding - boy I feel like an idiot! hehe The driver's side is designed to lock with a key only. W/o taking the rest of the lock assembly apart I thought I would ask here for a possible fix. Regardless it seems to be jammed or out of place. I've pulled the door panel off for a peak and it appears to be connected to a little 'block' or 'wedge'. ![]() ![]() If you push down it feels like you're going to bend the connecting rod/wire. ![]() Unlike the passenger side which pushes up and down and clicks w/o effort the driver side is stuck. This goes on an '86 westy and is manual locks. Something off the get go is the door lock handle on the inside driver side won't go down to lock. I just got my westy and am going through it.
